Marimba and traditional southern Pacific music workshop (Bogotá)

Learn the rhythms that make Colombia's Pacific coast vibrate. Across four immersive sessions you will explore three different rhythms on the chonta marimba, the bombos, the cununos, the guasás and the voices, gaining a practical and enjoyable understanding of this cultural heritage of the southern Pacific, with a participatory approach designed for beginners and experienced musicians alike.

Each session includes a viche tasting (the ancestral distilled spirit of the Pacific), traditional dance showcases and local cuisine. The workshop closes with a public celebration alongside masters and tradition bearers from the region.

Master George Flórez is an outstanding musician from the town of Timbiquí, where he currently lives and teaches children the tradition of the marimba and traditional songs. For years he has accompanied the Balanta brothers' dynasty in various collectives, drawing from the deepest roots of the Timbiquí tradition and passing it on to new generations.
